Container Model Factory: Analysis of Container Model Production Process
This section provides a detailed analysis of the complete process involved in the production of container scale models.
1. Material Selection and Basic Construction
Core Structural Framework
The foundational structure of the container scale model is meticulously constructed using 1.5mm thick oak board, precision laser-cut to form the six sides of the model. These panels are seamlessly joined utilizing a sophisticated micro mortise and tenon structure. Seams are expertly filled with fine-grained atomic ash and meticulously polished to replicate the distinct industrial feel and sharp edges characteristic of a real container, ensuring the scale model maintains authenticity.
Door System
The door hinges are individually hand-bent from a thin 0.3mm brass sheet to guarantee precise operation. The door lock mechanism is fabricated using 3D printing model techniques, specifically employing 3D printed resin components. An integrated magnet system on the inner side of the door panel enables smooth opening and closing, with the pivot angle carefully controlled to operate strictly between 90° and 95°, enhancing the realism of this industrial model.

2. Surface Treatment Process
Corrosion Effect Simulation
To achieve an authentic aged appearance, the exterior panels undergo a multi-stage process. A base layer of matte dark gray primer is applied and allowed to dry thoroughly. Subsequently, specialized techniques are employed using a sponge dipped in specially formulated rust-colored acrylic pigment to selectively pat the edges, focusing particularly on the bottom of the model container and the gaps between the doors. This process meticulously simulates the long-term effects of seawater corrosion marks found on real containers, adding significant depth to the scale model.
Identification Production
Company logos and markings are applied using advanced sand table model production techniques, specifically water transfer printing. This process ensures crisp and durable markings. The edges of the text are then manually refined using an oil painting pen to enhance the three-dimensional effect and achieve a realistic finish. For safety elements, danger signs are partially highlighted with fluorescent paint to achieve a subtle reflective effect, particularly noticeable at night, adding a crucial safety detail to the industrial model.
3. Detail Enhancement Techniques
Rivet Array Detailing
Enhancing the model’s realism involves meticulous rivet detailing. 0.8mm copper nails are strategically inserted along the seams of the container, arranged in consistent groups every 5cm. A specialized carving knife is used to draw a cross pattern onto the head of each nail. Finally, these rivets are aged to form natural oxidation spots, contributing to the overall scale model‘s detailed appearance.
Logistics Trace Simulation
To further enhance the model’s story, logistics-related details are simulated. Select sections of the surface are lightly abraded using fine sandpaper, partially polishing the finish to reveal the underlying red primer layer, mimicking signs of wear and tear. The container number is impressively printed using a hollow template process, intentionally finished with irregular blending effects to simulate a hand-applied stencil, adding character to the scale model.
4. Scenario-Based Closure
Base Design
The model is presented on a specially designed base that enhances its presentation. A wavy acrylic base incorporates LED light strips beneath the surface, simulating the reflection effect seen on a dock floor through frosted acrylic treatment. The bottom of the model container is equipped with miniature magnets, allowing for a detachable display option, providing flexibility for showcasing the scale model in various scenarios.
