Offshore Energy Scale Model Manufacturer

Offshore Energy Scale Model Manufacturer: Expert Sandtable Model Production Case Study

At our facility, we specialize in creating highly detailed and functional scale model representations of complex offshore energy systems. This case study details the production of a 1:150 scale sand table model showcasing an integrated offshore wind-oil platform.

Project Overview: Integrated Offshore Facility Visualization

A client commissioned us to create a sophisticated scale model demonstrating the co-location of offshore wind turbines and oil platform facilities. The model needed to integrate realistic environmental elements, specifically including dynamic wave simulation and night lighting systems. Key features depicted were turbine arrays, subsea cables, and support vessels.

Core Production Stages

1. Structural Framework

  • Main Platform: Constructed using laser-cut aviation-grade aluminum profiles, joined with precision TIG-welded seams. Support legs incorporated magnetic quick-release interfaces for easy assembly and disassembly.
  • Seabed Terrain: Engineered using a base of CNC-milled polyurethane foam. This surface was meticulously coated with layered epoxy resin to simulate the translucent effect of water, creating an immersive sand table model environment.

2. Component Fabrication

  • Wind Turbines: Blades were expertly vacuum-formed from PETG (a durable, optically clear plastic). Nacelles were 3D-printed, housing micro-bearings to enable functional rotation, showcasing advanced 3D printing model capabilities.
  • Drilling Rig: Detailed using photo-etched stainless steel sheets for intricate railings. Non-slip deck patterns were laser-etched onto the surface for enhanced realism and safety representation.

3. Environmental Detailing

  • Dynamic Water Effects: A multi-layer system was implemented. UV-printed wave patterns were applied to stacked acrylic sheets, and a separate mechanism drove these sheets at a subtle 0.5Hz frequency, simulating gentle undulations. This enhances the scale model‘s visual impact.
  • Marine Life: Added for contextual realism. Gypsum-cast coral clusters were carefully textured and pigmented using mineral colors. Hand-painted schools of fish were affixed to shrink film on the seabed, adding life to the sand table model.

4. Finishing System

  • Weathering Effects: Applied industrial gray primer base coat to simulate ocean spray and salt exposure. Artistically diluted oil paint was used to apply realistic, weathered rust streaks, particularly on metal components.
  • Ocean Color Gradient: A smooth transition from deep ocean blue to shallower water tones was achieved through airbrushing techniques. Resin highlights were added to the wave crests to mimic sun reflection.
  • Quality Control: Rigorous alignment checks were performed using AR (Augmented Reality) technology, ensuring component accuracy with a tolerance of ≤1.2mm. Lighting systems incorporate a realistic circadian rhythm shift (adjustable color temperature). Spare parts for high-wear items (e.g., ship anchor chains) were included (3x).

Compliance and Documentation

All construction processes adhered strictly to relevant marine engineering standards. Comprehensive production documentation, including process records and material specifications, is available via our facility’s monitoring system. We can arrange dynamic demonstrations of the model’s features, including its lighting and wave simulation, at our showroom.
